Questions about this floor
Straight answers
What a manager or contractor with a floor like this usually asks first.
Will a polished floor hold up to forklift and pallet jack traffic?
A densified polished floor is built for wheeled traffic and resists abrasion well. Lanes that wear fastest still get a plan, and the cleaning routine matters as much as the finish.
What's the line in the floor near the dock door?
That's a saw-cut control joint. Concrete is cut so it cracks along planned lines, and joints are filled to protect the edges from wheel damage. Joint treatment is a separate line in the scope.
Why are hairline cracks still visible in a polished floor?
Polishing makes the surface smooth and reflective, and it doesn't hide cracks. Hairline cracks are normal in concrete and often show clearly in a glossy floor. We call them out on the walkthrough so the finished floor holds no surprises.
How do you keep dock doors working while the floor is done?
By zones and by hours. Dock lanes get their own phase so receiving can continue where possible, and the written plan names which doors are down and when.
How would a Pittsburgh winter treat a floor like this?
Salt, slush and grit arrive at the doors, so the plan starts there: a walk-off mat zone long enough for several steps, a neutral cleaner and a cleaning routine your crew can follow. A sealed polished floor has no wax to strip, which is why winter upkeep stays simple.
