Questions about this floor
Straight answers
What a manager or contractor with a floor like this usually asks first.
Does a polished floor work for a retail or showroom space?
Often it's a good fit. The floor reflects light, so a room feels brighter, and there's no wax or coating to maintain on the sales floor. Sheen and traction can be chosen by zone, so the entrance can be treated differently from the main floor.
How do you work around columns, racks and displays?
We plan the order of the room with you: what is moved, when and by whom. Edges around columns and walls are finished with hand tooling, so the floor reads as one surface up to the base.
Can the space stay open to customers during the work?
Usually it can be phased so part of the room stays usable. Grinding makes dust and noise, so the plan covers containment and the hours we work.
What should a store do about winter salt?
Stop most of it at the door with a mat zone long enough for several steps. Dry mop daily and scrub with a neutral cleaner. Salt that dries leaves a white film that scrubs off, and acidic cleaners should stay away from a polished surface.
What do I need to send for a room like this?
The address, a rough square footage, what the floor is now, how the room is used and the hours we can work. A few phone photos help.
Have a floor like this?
Send the address and what the floor does all winter. We will walk it, check the slab and write a scope.
